Fluff pulp
What is fluff pulp?
Fluff pulp (also called comminution pulp or fluffy pulp) is a type of chemical pulp made from long fibre softwoods. Important parameters for fluff pulp are bulk and water absorbency.
Fluff pulp was first developed for use in disposable sanitary napkins.Disposable diaper producers also were early to convert to fluff pulp because of its low cost and high absorbency. Normal usage of fluff pulp in a diaper was about 55 percent. In the 1980s started the commercialization of air-laid paper, which gave better bulk, porosity, strength, softness, and water absorption properties compared with normal tissue paper. Also in the 1980s started the use of superabsorbents in diapers and reduced the need for fluff pulp and is now down to 15 grams or even less. The demand of the pulp in diapers has gone from being the absorbent of liquid to giving the products dry and wet strength. The worldwide production of fluff pulps amounts to about 3.5 million tons.
Application of fluff pulp
Fluff pulps are used as a raw material in the absorbent core of personal care products such as diapers, feminine hygiene products, air-laid absorbent towelling, as such, or with superabsorbents and/or synthetic fibres. More than 80% of the pulps are used in baby diapers.Fluff pulp can also be applied to airlaid products such as tableware, household, industrial and hospital various towel applications.
SAP(super absorbent polymers)
What is SAP?
SAP or Superabsorbent polymers is a material which can absorb up to 300 times their weight in aqueous fluids. Once absorbed, they do not subsequently release it. They are therefore an ideal material for use in products which are designed to contain fluids such as baby diapers/nappies, incontinence products, and feminine hygiene pads and liners. Absorbent polymers (SAP) consist of a network of hydrophilic polymer chains. Their primary characteristics are their ability to absorb liquids, turn the liquids into gels and hold them even under pressure. When it is applied in diapers, leakage of urine is prevented and it keeps baby’s bottom dry.
Advantages of SAP
The largest use of SAPs is found in personal disposable hygiene products, such as baby diapers, adult diapers and sanitary napkins.
Keep the skin dry.
Protect against skin irritation
Prevent the spread of infections
Offer improved quality of life and personal dignity
Safety (Superabsorbents are safe for use in absorbent hygiene products. They have been extensively tested and researched. Scientists and doctors alike have reviewed the research and confirm that superabsorbent material is safe.)
